Awards Programs
Campus Compact offers a range of awards honoring the outstanding work of students, faculty members, and others at our member campuses in addressing community issues. These awards shine a spotlight not just on the achievements of dedicated individuals but also on the campus support structures that allow those individuals to make a real and lasting impact in their communities. Only Campus Compact member institutions are eligible to submit nominations for these awards.
Civic Education & Engagement
Embedding engagement throughout higher education institutions is at the heart of Campus Compact's work. Under this broad category are research and other initiatives created to help campuses develop effective service, service-learning, and civic engagement programs.
Legislation & Policy
Campus Compact advocates and educates through direct contacts with elected officials and through involvement with state and national educational organizations. See also: Education Leadership Colloquium.
Professional Development & Training
Campus Compact is dedicated to developing the professional capacity and knowledge of faculty, administrators, students, and community service/service-learning staff seeking to extend their campuses' engaged work. In addition to state, regional, and national meetings, we offer on-site expertise and a host of resources to help members develop, fund, and run effective programs.
Service-Learning
Campus Compact has been a leader in the service-learning movement since its inception. Service-learning incorporates community work into the curriculum, giving students real-world learning experiences that enhance their academic learning while providing a tangible benefit for the community. Campus Compact's research, online tools, and other initiatives help campuses create effective service-learning programs that meet academic and service goals.
VISTA
Many of Campus Compact's state offices host AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) initiatives on member campuses and in other locations. These VISTAs serve a variety of community development and capacity building needs to increase community service, economic development, service-learning, and student involvement in schools and communities. In FY05, AmeriCorps*VISTA members hired, trained, and placed by state Compact offices contributed $48 million in direct service.
